John Steins

John Steins

John Steins has been making prints since 1976 in his Dawson City studio. Although he has made intaglio prints on his etching press his focus is mainly on relief printing, i.e. woodcuts, lino and wood engraving.

For over 30 years printmaking has been his chosen medium when making art. Other printmaking methods of interest to John are linocuts, woodcuts and intaglio. Some artists he admires include Paul Landacre, Lynd Ward and Eric Gill to name a few. He's also fond of Walter Phillips.

He very much admires Japanese prints of the Ukiyo-e period, otherwise referred to as the Floating World.
