In 1995, Joanne and her family moved to Dawson City from Kelowna, B.C. after purchasing the Downtown Hotel. Although Joanne has had a passion for working with glass since she was 19 years old, she chose to pursue a career as an accountant instead.

In 2016, after suffering with some major health conditions that placed Joanne on disability, she further pursued her passion in glass; in particular the art of fused glass. The art practice has been integral to Joanne’s healing journey. Working with glass and making beautiful creations has helped Joanne keep a positive attitude and has given her something to look forward to daily. With recovery behind her, Joann’s love for glass has grown even stronger. Being mathematically inclined, Joanne is drawn to the creative geometric and tapestry patterns and the flow of glass.
