Lillian Loponen was born into a Finnish Canadian heritage and has been living in the Yukon since 1979. A strong connection to the land and love of Mother Nature came with that Finnish heritage. It is said that her artworks reflect an indescribable feeling, an experience. One sees misty ice fogs that draw the viewer into the painting, the sun trying to peek through the mist in a prism of color, the snowy mountain-tops on a clear winter day highlighted in hues of pinks and peach, moonlight enchanting. It is said her works are realistic but invitingly dreamlike with a subtle weave of familiar shapes and mood bearing colors.
Some of Lillian’s paintings are located in noted permanent art collections such as the Royal Collection for Drawing and Watercolors, Windsor Castle, UK; Yukon Government, City of Whitehorse and the Canada Games Center, Whitehorse.
